Nicest original condition woodrail machine I have ever seen. The Pale Face is a comedy movie, and Western parody made in 1948 and stars Bob Hope and Jane Russell. It was the highest grossing movie that Bob Hope made in his career and the third highest grossing movie of 1948. The film is notable for the song Buttons and Bows, sung by Hope, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. My dad might be showing his age when nodding toward Bob Hope, but to him, Hope was a comedic genius and, arguably, this might be his best movie. In fact, it was so popular that it spun off Son of Pale Face, four years later and Buttons and Bows had an encore singing in it, too. Gottlieb produced 2200 machines, not an incidental amount, but somewhat surprisingly, there isnt much information about it.

The mint backglass has wonderful art by Gottliebs best artist, Roy Parker, and depicts Hope and Russell in a street scene. Game play is surprisingly good for an oldie. Its got the original pop bumper bodies and caps, and age has warped the bodies a little.

Reverse flippers have the original black wrapper coils and keep the ball in play. The kick out on the bottom of the play field kicks the ball toward the top of the play field encouraging more ball time and will reward accumulated value points. Game has an extra Special award that can give 1-5 free games and two power bumpers, which allegedly were a big hit with players at that time.
