Hi and WELCOME to my listing for this AMAZING 3 PIECE lot! IT'S THE ONLY KNOWN ONE OF ITS KIND IN THE WORLD!! 1st: A Full Scale animatronic JAWS shark (aka Bruce) used by Universal Studios in their Orlando theme park in 1990.
It was part of group of animatronic sharks that would chase the tour boats. This is the ONLY Universal Studios Animatronic Bruce known to be in private hands. Much provenance available, please contact for details. 2nd: An original bench from the JAWS ride boat that I acquired from the late skipper of the very last JAWS ride (Youtube videos of Skipper Mike's last ride has amassed over 100 million hits). 3rd: "Quint's Fighting chair" This Rock-away chair was acquired from the estate of millionaire Robert Entenmann (Entenmanns bakery/ Martha's Vineyard) and contains parts of the legendary shark hunter Captain Frank Mundus' (the inspiration for Quint) original Rock-away chair which served as the prototype for the movie.
Though the chair was not used in the movie, it comes with the actual fighting chair steel seat, rod holder and belt harness Mundus used to catch the largest Great White shark ever taken on rod and reel (17 feet 3,427 lbs). It was also used on the shark fishing charter Peter Benchley took with Mundus before JAWS was filmed.
I obtained the seat directly from Chris Kiszka, a renowned JAWS collector and former first mate of Mundus. The remaining pieces of the Mundus chair were signed and are part of Livingsharks Museum collection livingsharks. I'm also throwing in a fighting belt signed by Frank Mundus. My brother and I have a small restaurant in Staten Island with a display of this and other authentic JAWS memorabilia. The entire collection is on display and can be inspected at our store, named 494 CHICKEN, located at 3785 Victory blvd in Staten Island. Please ask for Tom or John. BACKGROUND ON THE JAWS RIDE. The Universal JAWS ride was, at the time, the most expensive amusement ride ever built. In 1990, it was torn down and rebuilt due to a myriad of reliability issues.Universal successfully sued the original designer. The new company, Eastport International Incorporated, won the new contract and successfully rebuilt the ride. We have the front 14 foot section of the mechanical shark used in the original version of ride. (confirmed by Google aerial photos and County Clerk records).
A newspaper article from 1992 (see pic) shows the shark in Maryland with the owner/engineer in charge of rebuilding it. We spoke directly to the owner of Eastport, Craig Mullen, and he confirmed its authenticity. This shark is the only one that remains from the original version of the ride and is likely the only full scale Jaws shark (aka "Bruce") from Universal in private hands. Recently, Pawn Stars was very interested in featuring the shark.
Those plans were cancelled right before the proposed date due to logistics. Also, if you Google "494 Chicken JAWS", you'll see a bunch of articles, blog posts and a video or two of our shark. I've also included a pic of our shark which was featured in a book about the ride. This item is in the category "Entertainment Memorabilia\Movie Memorabilia\Props\Originals".
