CREATURE FEATURES, your one-stop shop for monstrous movie memorabilia, celebrates the art of stop-motion animation with our latest series of auctions showcasing rare collectibles from the works of such legends as Willis O'Brien, Ray Harryhausen, Jim Danforth, David Allen and Randall William Cook. This week, we're saluting the beloved "Eighth Wonder of the World" with this ORIGINAL bust of the mighty "KING KONG" inspired by the classic 1933 RKO masterpiece starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong and Bruce Cabot. This magnificent rendition was sculpted by the renowned Mike Hill, known for a career in sculpting his stunningly life-like silicone figures of classic monsters, and whose work is prominently featured in the traveling exhibit showcasing the personal collection of Guillermo Del Toro titled At Home With Monsters. Hill created this bust for an unproduced KONG-themed feature where he conceived and workshopped a series of maquettes for the project in the early 2000's.
Hill took the approach of interpreting the famed monarch of Skull Island as if he were a real, natural, living breathing primate. This dynamic rendition measures roughly 16" tall, 17" deep, and 17" wide and comes mounted on a wooden base with the official title "8TH WONDER -- RAGE. The black display pedestal is not included. The resin bust has been painted with a striking faux bronze finish and weighs in at 13 pounds!Only three of these figures were made for the production with the other two remaining in the possession of the original producer and Hill.
