This listing is for one (1) vintage Star Wars Collectible, an early pre-release item known as the Star Wars Campaign Book, or some refer to it as a pressbook, and still others refer to it as a Lobby Book or Distribution Promo. It's hard to pin down the specific name, but most die-hard Star Wars collectors know this item, and it's hard to find in great condition! I have owned this book and box for the last 20+ years.
I used to collect Star Wars memorabilia, and this is one of the last remaining items I have from a large collection. Not many of these come up for sale, but when they do they are usually damaged far beyond what I offer here. But I've decided a more active collector and fan would appreciate this item and give it a good home! The box is in very good condition, with the black Star Wars band intact except for a small piece torn away on the back. I photographed the box against a white background to show the patina of the cardboard, and photos clearly show an aged cardboard box.
This is to be expected in something from 1976/1977. The tab that keeps the box closed is torn on one side, but this has not affected the closing of the box. The book is in exceptional condition. There are no major creases, wrinkles or cracks, on any page, except. The front cover has a very slight crease that is maybe a half inch long, and it's slightly white against the black of the cover. It's on the front cover, about 1/4 from the bottom in the middle. The last photo I posted shows this small crease, as best as I could. In order to even see the crease, I had to overexpose the photo, so the background is blown out and every dust speck looks like a white spot. I'm just trying to say, the little crease is a small defect and was tough to photograph. The spine is nearly perfect, with just a minor line of white across the fold.
All internal pages are super clean and no creases or folds. The second to last photo shows a top-view down, looking at the book while inside the box.
In between the book and box, I inserted a loose, thin sheet of acid-free acetate (clear plastic sheet) years ago to protect the book cover from any discoloration from the cardboard box. It has kept the book cover in great shape. On the Star Wars Collectors Archive website this book is described."Another item which exhibits the "pointy W logo style is the. A lavishly illustrated large-format book, which loosely resembles the program that would be available after the film's release. However, the campaign book is distinguished by its full-color spreads and formal composition, as well as by its white 11x14-inch box, which came with the film's logo banded around its middle.
As might be expected, the box is a much tougher find than the book. Another Site had this description. (Lucasfilm, 1977) The Star Wars campaign book, a lavishly illustrated large-format book, which was sent to theaters before the films release to help sell the film to theater owners. This is the very rare pre-release book and box that both feature the "pointy W" logo style that was later changed to the logo used on everything since the release of the film. The item "Star Wars Original Pressbook/Exhibitors/Campaign book POINTY LOGO Top Condition" is in sale since Thursday, July 28, 2016.
